I’ve been waiting a long time to write about a tech vendor who places education high on their priority list. As evidenced by the recent licensing and Web hosting alliance between 3Com and SmartPlanet.com–it looks like my wish finally come true. To fully appreciate 3Com’s strategy, you should first understand that one of my perennial beefs with tech vendors and VARs is that they often try to sell products without providing the necessary education needed to value the benefits. Hence, they often sell “technology for technology’s sake.” They should sell solutions to business problems.
